With schools across the country closed in a bid to curb the spread of COVID19, KEEP has completed the transformation of a container into a mobile library for children to access books during this period.
The project took 4 weeks to complete and has a seating capacity of 20 persons. However, for now, there will be no sitting. It’s opened for only ‘pick-up and go’ services.
Of course, we will have a hand-washing station, and only one child, or parent can enter, at a time, to select a book.
Post COVID19, it will be a space for the kids to hangout, read and study. Over the long term, we look to equip it with solar lamps so those who do not have electricity at home can come out and study under supervised conditions.
More windows will be added when we have emptied out the other 20 foot space which still has books. So far, the space library space is retrofitted with 3 windows and 3 large doors.
During this period, there will be limited access and the space will only be opened 3 times a week, from 10 am-2pm, for neighborhood families to collect books for their kids. The container library is located in the Baptist Seminary community in Paynesville, Monrovia.
